HARMONY THROUGH COMMUNICATION WITH NATURE WORKSHOP
A JOURNEY TO INDIVIDUAL SELF-DISCOVERY THROUGH NATURE
Thursday evening through Monday at noon
**Our schedule may be subject to change. We like to remain flexible to accommodate special happenings on the farm, weather related delays, and to provide education on the most interesting new subjects as they come to our attention.**
4:00-6:00pm Arrival, Getting Settled
6:00-7:00pm Dinner and Nutritional Information session
Our goal is to make each meal into a delicious taste experience as well as incorporating innovative, nutritional information
7:00pm Gathering by the campfire for introductions and sharing
7:00am Kundalini Yoga in Nature/Yurt/Gardens followed by a short walk to our serene Paradise Pond for morning meditation
8:00am Delicious Breakfast: Taste organic fruits and veggies from our garden/farm. For non-vegans, we may have farm fresh eggs available from our chickens.
Breakfast Learning Objective: Take the short blind-fold taste test:
Can you tell the difference between GMO veggies/fruits and farm grown?
9:00am through LUNCH:
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Mindfulness Training in Quieting the Monkey-Mind
You, as a participant are invited on an introductory Nature Tour through our sacred forest land, lush gardens and open fields. We encourage you to explore and discover what attracts you in nature. Let your senses be your guide.
You may be drawn to listen to bird sounds and/or be interested in bird identification. Others may be fascinated by the non-domesticated animals. You may want to explore how to identify footprints, discovering ancient bones and listening to the animal sounds. And yet others may be more drawn to the trees, plants and wild flowers. Some may be more drawn to our domesticated animals such as our certified therapy dogs, the nursing calves and moms, the chickens and Mr. Rooster, and of course the majestic, ever vigilant llamas.
Practice slowing down your pace in order to identify the many subtle and not so subtle nature sounds around you. Notice when you begin feeling the connection with Mother Earth under your feet and experience the energy radiating. As the energy radiates, notice what you are feeling and then begin to practice quieting the monkey mind. Each participant will become aware of what they specifically gravitate towards in nature, how it brings peacefulness – and perhaps the significance of what you may have been avoiding. Discover which parts of yourself may have been in hiding and free them up to reemerge, like a new plant budding in the forest. Gain a clear vision on how to let those parts of yourself flower and blossom by nurturing them, fostering a sense of deeper self-discovery through nature. This is Eco-Psychology.
LUNCH: outside weather permitting. Group can choose an outside spot for lunching and munching. Learning objective: GMOs and the ecological impact of our food choices.
2:00-6:00 BEEKEEPING, CULTIVATING MUSHROOMS, AND THEIR CONNECTION
INTRODUCTION TO BEEKEEPING: Become educated on how severe the bee problem is on this planet. Why are bees vanishing, what is the remedy? Learn how YOU can help save the bees and thus, our planet!
INTRODUCTION TO HEALING BENEFITS OF MUSHROOMS. Objectives are to learn to recognize the most common mushrooms and see how they are planted and watered. Then learn a variety of some of the most delicious methods of cooking. Most significant, however, is to learn the healing properties of mushrooms. Each mushroom contains certain properties which make them ideal for each specific physical condition.
Discover a new surprise, which is how the bees and mushrooms connect to help save this planet!
Remember these are just brief introductions to very complex fields of study.
7:00pm Dinner (weather permitting) outside facing Mt. Rainier in all her majesty.
At the farm, we have developed a tradition of dining while facing the mountain. The Mountain brings us stability and yet a deep awareness of the constant movement of energy. Many people become upset when “things seem to be changing!” Yet, nothing on this planet remains the same from one moment to the next! Sit and watch The Mountain and the sky for even five minutes and you will experience this principle directly. Even in the constant movement of energy, there is a deep sense of peace and harmony with oneself and others. One important personal practice we teach is for each person to feel safe within the constant changes of our lives.
CAMPFIRE: singing, sharing and bringing our individual gifts
THE ONE AND ONLY THING THAT IS PREDICTABLE AND REMAINS CONSTANT IN OUR LIVES, IS CHANGE.
7am – 9am Yoga, Meditation, Breakfast
Plant and Medicinals ID: We will be going out into the forest, taking time to identify edible and medicinal plants. We will soon discover the natural healing herbs that grow abundantly in the Pacific Northwest. Participants are encouraged to use all their senses to discover their own internal compass. This is a skill set which can only be learned experientially by building your own emotional, conceptual, and spiritual bond with nature.
Further teaching on our educational ecology walk will incorporate identifying plants and learn how to prepare them for healing
We will demonstrate how to utilize the foraged plants for health purposes. You will learn where in the body these herbs be used for healing, boosting immunity and creating vitality. We will teach you how to cook these plants and/or create healing combinations of herbs for specific ailments. Through dehydration we can preserve these plants for further use in the future.
Meals Times (whenever we get there)
Learning Objectives: mealtimes will always include, nutritional information, health benefits and preparation ideas.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: ACTIVE IMAGINATION and ARTWORK EXPRESSION
Participants will be taught the skill of active imagination. Each participant is free to discover their own sacred site to engage in their active imagination process. Upon return, art supplies will be available for participants to express their creativity upon paper.
Time to create, perhaps sitting amidst the Ancient Cedar Meditation area, sitting by the lake, or closer to the animals. Individually or as a group, you can create expression art pieces with items found around you to preserve your experience and to share with group members. Create a short presentation to share your creative piece with the group.
7am-9am Yoga, Meditation, Breakfast
Breath work in our heated pool, lighten your body and mind, and open up to the blessings of Mt. Rainier. This is a most auspicious environment in which to do breathwork! The benefits will continue to be recognized as the days, weeks and months progress.
Authentic Native American Sweat Lodge: this is a powerful Native American Process which is like the frosting on the cake! The lodge will pull together for you, much of what you have gathered from this weekend experience on your last night. Songs, prayers, and blessings all go along with The Lodge. Bring some songs to share!
Other possible topics that may be covered during the weekend include:
Land and Forest Reforestation: seeking to foster a sense of stewardship toward our environment and for future generations. Enjoy a direct experience working IN and FOR nature, which provides the context for facilitating human-nature connections.
We will offer experiences where students can participate in planting trees, flowers, herbs, and learning to grow our own food. We will explore with you how you may bring home what you’ve learned such as “deck and backyard gardens” Giving back to nature and replenishing her gifts for generations to come.
Recycling processes, reusing and repurposing plastic items. Realizing that The Chinese “are no longer taking our garbage!” Literally and figuratively. Which means we have to deal with our own garbage. We as humans need to learn to use less, want less, and spend more time focusing on our closest relationships and manifesting our true purpose.
MONDAY: Completion breakfast followed by a closing ceremony created by students.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: What we want you to take with you:
Share this process with your family, clients and community.
Create nature experiences no matter where you live
Bring an appreciation of nature to those around you
Maintain this new perspective in your daily life
Remember that: THE ONE AND ONLY THING THAT IS PREDICTABLE AND REMAINS CONSTANT IN OUR LIVES, IS CHANGE.
